FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF EDUCATION Miami, Florida AN ANALYSIS OF ARTICLES RELATED TO: The impact of poverty on childrenââ¬â¢s development and early childhood programs A literature review submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements of the course SPS6805 To Dr. Phil Lazarus by Jessica R. Rothman Fall 2014 The purpose of this literature review was to review articles examining the influence poverty may or may not have on young children. However, the results of the study indicated malnutrition impact on development of infants and toddlers was unknown, but malnutrition in children led to iron-deficiency anemia (Skalicky et al., 2006). An additional study focused on the iron-deficiency concern that exists among low-income toddlers in the United States (Crowel et al., 2005). Even though the prevalence of iron-deficiency anemia has declined in the last three to four decades, it continues to be a major health concern for low-income infants and toddlers in the United States (Crowel et al., 2005). Research has connected iron-deficiency in early childhood with an increased risk for developmental delays (Crowel et al., 2005). Most clinicians reported that all parents were advised to orally give medication to children with anemia; however for low-income families administering iron was not a priority (Crowel et al., 2005). Iron deficiency anemia was seen as a minor issue for many low-income parents, because it is a struggle for them to even financially support their families and ultimately parents regularly have the means to provide the medication for their children (Crowel et al., 2005). Not only does research support that iron deficiency causes delays for young children, but some previous research also suggests other health risks may link to development. Welsch,

The Development Of The Cognition - 1013 Words
The development of the cognition in the early years of life (2-6 year olds) is the assembly of the thought processes. The thought processes are comprised of memory, problem solving, and decision-making (Encyclopedia of Childrenââ¬â¢s Health). Universally all childrenââ¬â¢s thought processes consist of these three abilities; however, there are cases where the child doesnââ¬â¢t have the ability or can be impaired in one or more of these abilities. Several theories of how a child in the early years thinks have been developed over the years. The motor skills, brain development, and impulse control that advances every year of a childââ¬â¢s life affect the cognition or ability to think (book). Two theorists that first described this were Jean Piaget and Levâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦According to Kathleen Stassen Berger, the Preoperational stage is where children donââ¬â¢t use the reasoning process and is different than the Sensorimotor stage because they can now think sy mbolically. Until the child reaches around the age of six there are 4 limitations of logic, including: Centration, the focus on appearance, static reasoning, and irreversibility. Centration is to focus on only part of the situation rather than the situation as a whole. A major type of centration is egocentrism which means ââ¬Å"self-centerednessâ⬠. This means the child understand the world only from their perspective. The focus of appearance is the idea that an object is what it appears to be. Static reasoning is that the child believes the world is exactly how it is now and wonââ¬â¢t change. Lastly, irreversibility is child belief that once something happens it canââ¬â¢t be changed (Berger, 2014, p.182-183). Piaget proved this in an experiment done on conservation and how no matter if the object has the same amount of something in it, if one is narrower and so the substance is higher, the child believes that there is more substance in it. This chart from the book shows conservation. Kathleen Stassen Berger explains the outcome of the experiment when she says, ââ¬Å"Young children fail to understand conservation because they focus (center) on what they see (appearance), noticing only the immediate (static) condition. It does not occur to them that they can

CAPITAL PUNISHMENT THE DEATH PENALTY - 500 Words
CAPITAL PUNISHMENT: THE DEATH PENALTY Capital punishment is a controversial and perpetual subject of moral and political debate in the United States. There are liberal groups protesting the death penalty, claiming that the civil rights of the convicted party have been violated. As a child advocate, my question is why are the rights of the deceased victim and the victimââ¬â¢s family marginalized? Where are these protesters during the trial when the accused is being tried for the torture, rape, and murder of a child? Why are the Constitutional rights of the victim minimalized? I have interviewed a few men and women who have been incarcerated for murdering a child. In prison all they have is time; they either use the time to reflect onâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Today, this would be a sentence of manslaughter as opposed to murder. Presently 32 States carry capital punishment; however, the death penalty was and is never employed arbitrarily or casually. God does not admonish vigilantism (Romans 12: 14-21) and it is for this reason He has employed civil governments as the instrument for imposing sentences, including capital punishment (Romans 13: 1-4); therefore as Christians, we are to abide by the due process of government ( Romans 13:1; Compare 1 Peter 2:13; Acts 25:11; Proverbs 8:15). The scriptures clearly state that swift justice deters crime (Eccl. 8:11, Deut. 13:5, 17:7, 19:19, 21:21, 22:21; 1 Corinthians 5:13) and God makes it clear how He feels about murderersâ⬠¦they must die (Genesis 9:6; Exodus 21:12:Leviticus 24:17). Violent criminals need to be removed and remain incapacitated from society. Confusion among Christiansââ¬â¢ does exist due to scriptural context relating to forgiveness. I advocate capital punishment because I do believe it is a deterrent, however innocent people should not be targeted; the evidence provided would have to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Criminal Justice is not outside the sphere of Christian thinking and in adhering to a Biblical Worldview, God created humans with the ability to declare verdicts and carry out judgments (Genesis 1-3). There are three hormones produced from the genes.First, Brain hormone which makes a gland in the thorax gives the second hormone (Molting hormone) which is completely depends on the third hormone (Juvenile hormone) which causes the molting of the larva when it presents in high amount. Each stage of the metamorphosis is specialized to do a particular activity so the metamorphosis process is very beneficial in that manner because it prevents a mixing between two functions that ask for huge energy such as in the caterpillar stage the mission is growing while in the butterfly stage responsible for the reproducting (Towle, 1991).After mating, the male lepidopteran dies while the female has to survive until she lays her eggs. She chooses the place to put her eggs carefully by choosing a close spot to leaves so that the caterpillars can eat when they hatch . The mission of the caterpillar is eating. Starting with it shell which protected it as it developed . When the caterpillar grows, its ready to move to the next stage (pupa) by spinning a silk pad and hanging their heads downward from the pad . here are active changes inside the pupa to form an adult butterfly by completing the transformation of the organs and the arrangement of the muscular system then after a while its ready to emerge (Patent, 1979). Monarch butterflies migration Migration of monarch butterflies is the most amazing biological event on the earth. The journey of monarch butterflies is around 3100 miles (500 km). When the temperature drops in winter in the north of the U. S. , butterflies migrate to the south (Mexico and California) looking for warmer places (Hussong, 2010).The annual migration needs four generations to be complete. All the four generations have the same time limits of the first three stages of the life cycle: four days as an egg, two weeks as a larva, and ten days as a pupa but the difference comes in the last stage ââ¬Å"as an adultâ⬠the first generations live for (2 ââ¬â 6) weeks but the fourth generation lives for (6 ââ¬â 8) months in Mexico and California then its migrate north lay their eggs and die (Rosenblatt, 2002). The threats to monarch butterflies The annual migration of monarch butterflies is facing several threats. The most dangerous threat that affects the migration is deforestation. An illegal logging caused by the Mexicans is the major factor of deforestation in Mexico. Now with a decreased number of trees monarch butterflies lost their favored spots and they have less area to settle. Some scientists say that the entire extraordinary migration of the monarch butterfly is in danger of collapsing. Global warming is important as well because itââ¬â¢s causing a decrease in the number of monarch butterflies. Climate change is affecting their wintering grounds and summer breeding grounds.A wetter, colder weather is predicted in Mexico over next 50 years and the freezing temperature with rain can be deadly to overwintering butterflies. The government and the authorities in North America are trying to save monarch butterflies by building sanctuaries and supporting monarch butterflies organizations such as: Monarch butterfly biosphere reserve, and North America Monarch Conservation Plan (NAMCP).References Bernstein, L. For Annie and Lynda, the most of import thing about Halloween dark is happening a topographic point to hold sex with their fellows. For Laurie, nevertheless, it # 8217 ; s doing certain the child she # 8217 ; s baby sitting is holding a good clip. The whole narrative is truly intense and the manager maintain the audiences wondering is traveling to go on next to the misss. The sum of content in the film Halloween is comparatively low, but the content is highly chilling. The manager used particular camera angles, particular costume, evil slayer, and sex to make an intense ambiance and tight narrative board. The consequence of Halloween is a phenomenon success. None of the follow up horror movies can come near to its success and Halloween has become a modern classic of the most hideous sort. 33a
